I was looking through the Kindle books currently listed for free right now and came across one that is great for anyone interested in learning about ways to save. The Simple Dollar: How One Man Wiped Out His Debts and Achieved the Life of His Dreams

Don't wait to download if you think you might like to read a book.  They do go back up in price.  If you don't have a Kindle, you can download the Kindle application to your computer or your Droid.  I have red a couple of books on my Droid. I was surprised at how easy it was to read. It was nice laying in bed with the lights off and reading.  You can check out the Top 100 Free Kindle books anytime.

U.S. National Parks: Free Entrance Days Announced

January 4, 2011 (Washington, DC) - Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar today announced that the National Park Service will waive admission fees on 17 selected dates throughout 2011 and encouraged all Americans to make a New Year’s resolution to visit a national park this year.

Here are the *fee-free days for over 100 National Parks in 2011:
* January 15-17 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday weekend)
* April 16-24 (National Park Week)
* June 21 (First day of summer)
* September 24 (Public Lands Day)
* November 11-13 (Veterans Day weekend)

When you search for National Parks  near you, you will find out information on fees, hours, and facilities. So far, there isn't a complete published list of participating parks that I have found.  If you are interested in a specific park, contact them to see if they are participating.  *Fee waiver includes: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise. There are 394 national parks that never charge an entrance fee.

The National Park Service also offers park passes year round.  The Senior Pass would be a nice gift for friends or family ages 62 and older and can be bought in person and is valid at participating Federal Recreation sites.

Summer Reading Programs

Have you all completed your summer reading programs?  Our family has enjoyed reading books and visiting our local libraries.  If you haven't turned in your completed summer reading forms, there's still a little time left. I posted back in May about Borders' and Barnes & Noble's Summer Reading Programs as well as our local public library's Summer Reading Programs. My son got Rick Riordan's "39 Clues" for completing the Barnes & Nobles program.  He'll finish up his 10 for the Borders' Program this week.  My two oldest children completed their 10 for the local library.  They enjoyed moving their water creatures along the window at the library almost as much as their free ice creams, free slurpees, and completion decals.  My husband and I both finished our 5+ books for the adult summer reading program.  I even won one a prize pack for Flying Squirrels Baseball!  Now, to win that Kindle!

Henrico County Summer Reading Programs

Henrico County Libraries launched the Summer Reading Club on June 7. The program runs through August 31, 2010. There are several programs available.

For preschoolers-rising 5th graders can participate in the "Submerge Yourself" program.

Kids get a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A Icedream Cone®Coupon for registering. When 5 books or programs are logged, kids will get a free cool treat. When 10 books or programs are logged, kids will get a Star Reader Decal.

Register for the Summer Reading Club.There are also programs for teens and adults. The rewards for the teen program are the same as the kids program. The adult program has rewards as well including an entry upon completion of the program for a Kindle. I need to register myself!
